Calyx - Wasteground
One of rising star Calyx’s finest Shadow moments ‘Wasteground’ resurfaces for those of you who missed out on the tearing limited EP’s last year. Eerie guitar hooks and pads with dark hip-hop vocals build up in the intro as a heavy Mentasm riff converges with aggressive twisted bass and heavy beats. This track was picked up by the mighty Grooverider as the last track for his ‘Fabric Live 06’ compilation.
On the flipside is ‘Kingdom’ which has been Kemal’s opener since it emerged last year. Epic horns set the scene as rolling breaks and bongos build to an anthemic breakdown; massive distorted 808’s sweep in over the filtered horns before the subs reach maximum weight and the breaks kick back in. (Also appears as the backing track for the Fabio & Grooverider Radio 1 show!)
